Freezer

One of the inventions that have made a great contribution to the lives of most people is the freezer. Try imagining a life without a freezer or the refrigerator. If you can't, then this just shows how the freezer and its functions have been deeply ingrained in the lives of most people who have access to electricity.

The freezer is basically an appliance that allows the preservation of food through the method of freezing. Usually found in kitchens in homes and commercial establishments, the freezer plays such a big part in food preparation. Through the years, the freezer has undergone a lot of improvements and innovations. Currently, there are different types of freezer that people can choose from.

Types of freezer

Upright Freezer

The upright freezer is a type of freezer that has a body that stands vertically. An upright freezer can come in a variety of sizes to fit your kitchen, ranging from 2 cubic feet up to 20 cubic feet. A small upright freezer can be suitable for home use to accommodate basic food supplies for a small family. A larger upright freezer on the other hand, can be used in industrial kitchens and kitchens of commercial establishments such as restaurants and cafeterias. Some people prefer using an upright freezer in their kitchens because it occupies lesser floor space. Storing food in an upright freezer is also more convenient, much like putting supplies in a pantry cabinet. An upright freezer can have one or two doors that open at the front instead of from the top.

Chest Freezer

Unlike an upright freezer, a chest freezer lies prostrate or across the floor space. A chest freezer can either be large square or rectangular boxes that open from the top instead of from the sides. This type of freezer resembles a trunk or a chest and can have one or more compartments inside. The chest freezer can come in different sizes as well, ranging from four to twenty cubic feet. Since the chest freezer occupies more floor space, it is rarely seen in a standard home kitchen but can be found instead in the basement or garage. Due to its size, a chest freezer is favored for use in industrial kitchens such as restaurants, cafeterias and even in factories.

Freezer-refrigerator combinations

A freezer can also be incorporated with a refrigerator to save on space and energy. A freezer-refrigerator combination is perfect for homeowners or proprietors who want to save more space in the kitchen. In a freezer-refrigerator combination unit, the freezer usually is usually found on the top part. Though similar to an upright freezer, the freezer in a combination unit is smaller and can accommodate only a fraction of the items that can be stored in full-sized freezer units. The freezer-refrigerator combination unit is an appliance that also saves on energy as homeowners only have to pay for the cost of one appliance instead of two.
